The Crew

Captain Jon Baker
Born in 1961
US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master (Since 1986)

I started sailing when I was about 8 years old and I have worked my way up to the big boats over the years. I have made passages from Alaska south and across the Pacific to Hawaii before getting married to my wife, Jeannette, and dropping anchor (so to speak) in the San Juans.

Aboard "Northwind" most of my time is spent between navigating/maintaining our Catalina 50 and helping out in the galley, as I love to cook. I also am happy to go on hikes or point you in the right direction. I enjoy teaching people to steer the boat and handle the sheets, but I am happy to do it all if you want to relax. I really love catching all the fresh local seafood we have in our local waters, and I will share my local knowledge with you.

Captain Jon Baker
My undergraduate studies were in Salmon Fisheries and Marine Biology so I am happy to educate you about our local marine critters. I think you will find I have a great sense of humor and enjoy a good joke. I also love Jimmy Buffett's music so If you're a fan we will get along great. Jeannette and I take great pride in introducing our guests to our magical area and seeing the joy of their discoveries. After 16 years experience in crewed charters we think we have assembled the finest sailing yacht and the best crew in the islands. Come see for yourself...

Captain Jeannette "Jette" Baker
Born 1964
US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master

Chef Extraordinaire, galley dancer and guitar/ukelele player

Jon and I work together well as a team. Where Jon's strengths end, mine begin. For example, I tell a MUCH better joke and he will never be caught baking a batch of cookies! I've been sailing with Jon for over 17 years and acquired my Coast Guard Masters license in 2000. We thought it beneficial to have a "backup Captain" and also so we could branch out into Women Only trips. So grab 5 girlfriends and come along for a great time! I tend to live in the galley where I prepare three meals a day. People ask if I like to cook, and I answer that what I love is feeding people. I enjoy providing the gift of a delicious meal and enjoying it together, complete with candlelight. What could be better than that? Some of my specialties include cranberry nut scones, crab cakes, fresh made pasta, and many things with chocolate!

Another one of my unique contributions is as a trail running guide. I strap on my running shoes at least twice during the week and love having someone along to share the pain! If you enjoy singing, I usually have at least one instrument handy to make music with and I love singing duets! Another thing I enjoy is playing games. So as long as I'm not dancing in the galley preparing some tasty treat, then grab me for Scrabble or a card game. I don't even mind if I lose! (Jon enjoys playing cards and dominoes, too)
